Who is Ken Russel? The Florida Democrat is going viral on TikTok
A Florida congressional candidate who goes viral on TikTok could teach fellow politicians a thing or two about appealing to the masses.
Ken Russell is quickly becoming the video sharing app’s favorite politician with his funny yet informative videos.
And while many would turn their noses up at a member of our government who devotes time to the social media platform, Russell proves that sometimes you have to meet voters where they are to get your message across.

Ken Russell is an American politician who is running for Florida’s 27th congressional district against Maria Salazar.
Russell runs as a Democrat and leans to the left when it comes to his positions on various issues.
He is a father of three children and four pets, and is also an impressive campaigner with a large following on TikTok as he tries to appeal to young people.
Russell is currently the City Commissioner of Miami – where much of Florida’s 27th District resides – and previously used his TikTok as a platform to discuss various issues and happenings in the city.
“Over the past six years, I’ve used my position to help solve other murky issues,” he writes on his site. “Now I’m running for Congress to tackle Florida’s biggest problems.”
He announced he would be running for Congress on May 1 and since then has published extensively about his positions on various issues such as climate change, women’s reproductive rights, gun reform and more.

His videos are often tinged with humor – hence their virality – but what’s no joke is how important it is to appeal to a generation of people who feel neglected by their politicians.
This is exactly what Russell does.
You’d think it’s fickle to air their political stances on an app known for its viral dance tendencies, but if you’re looking to capture the attention of people who may not be as politically engaged, they’re on TikTok. .
It seems the father-of-three is very knowledgeable about social media, and in the comments to one of his videos, he jokes with another person who commented “Whoever taught you how to use TikTok needs a increase”.
“His allowance is already too high,” joked Russell, joking that his teenage son was the one who taught him how to use the social media platform.
Now that Russell has solidified his stance on social issues and made it clear what he wants to change, he’s opted to track TikTok trends in a unique way to push his campaign even further and reach young people in the region.
