Biden to present infrastructure sales pitch in Pennsylvania | National government and new policies

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – President Joe Biden will visit the Allentown area on Wednesday as he fights for Senate passage of a nearly $ 1 trillion infrastructure measure that a group bipartisan senators negotiated with him.

The White House sees Biden’s visit to Macungie as a step to “highlight the importance of American manufacturing, buy products made in America, and support high-paying jobs for American workers.”

He gave no further details about the visit, Biden’s second to Pennsylvania so far this month after traveling to Philadelphia last week to speak on voting rights.

In the Senate, Republicans this week rejected an effort to start debate on the infrastructure deal. Supporters say they just need more time before another vote, possibly next week.

Macungie is near the home of Republican U.S. Senator Pat Toomey, who voted against opening the debate. In a statement after the vote, Toomey echoed other Republicans in stressing that critical details of the deal are not finalized.

If agreement is reached on these, Toomey will consider the measure “on the basis of its substance”. The other United States Senator from Pennsylvania, Democrat Bob Casey, voted with other Democrats to start the debate.
