Alleged fraud: EFCC transfers politician from Kogi to Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission airlifted the Nigerian People’s New Party candidate for Kogi State Assembly, Ismaila Atumeyi, to Lagos.

Atumeyi was arrested by the EFCC in Abuja on Tuesday for alleged bank fraud.

He was accused of hacking into a commercial bank’s system and defrauding over N1.4 billion.

A statement from EFCC Media and Publicity Officer Wilson Uwujaren on Wednesday said the suspect was flown to Lagos on Wednesday morning for further investigation.

The statement read in part: “Atumeyi was flown to Lagos in the early hours of Wednesday, November 2, 2022 as further investigation into the scam.

“He is being billed to be questioned by another team of officers from the Lagos Commission command.”

Atumeyi and two others, Joshua Dominic and Abdulmalik Salau Femi, a former bank employee, were arrested by the EFCC for allegedly hacking into a commercial bank’s system and defrauding the institution of over N1.4 billion. .

The EFCC had in a statement on Tuesday November 1, 2022 disclosed that it had recovered 326 million Naira and USD 140,500 from Atumeyi in a sting operation from his hideout at Queens Estate, Gwarinpa, Abuja, while 470 000 dollars had been recovered from Abdulmalik in Lagos.
